3) 2017 Golf Quotes

Just to lighten the end of the year, I thought we would just have a look at a few golfing quotes during the 2017 Season.

Rory Mcilroy:

“More likely than not, I won’t be going to the Games in 2020. Just because of my personal feelings towards – not the Olympic Games, the Olympic Games are great and I think golf included in the Olympics is fantastic. But for me, it’s just something I don’t want to get into, and that’s a personal choice and hopefully people respect that decision.” – on his continuing resentment of having been made to choose which entity to represent – the Republic of Ireland or Great Britain, of which his native Northern Ireland is part.

Inbee Park:                                                                                                                                                            “The whole three months I was back home in Inbee ParkKorea, and everywhere I went, everyone wanted to see it. So, I’ve been carrying my gold medal wherever I go.” – On her life since winning Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro

Sam Saunders:

“I don’t need to compete against my grandfather’s career. Nobody can. I don’t care how many golf tournaments you win, Sam Saunders and nobody’s going to compete in the terms of doing what he did for the game. And for me to try to promote my own brand or name would be foolish because I have such a great opportunity to promote and to continue what he has already done. That’s what I’m going to do and not make it about myself.” – after taking the lead in the Genesis Open, 50 years after his grandfather, Arnold Palmer, won the tournament for the third time

Rory Mcilroy:

“I adjusted his driver for him, because he’s trying to hit it longer than Gary [Player] Thursday morning.” – on helping Jack Nicklaus get ready for the ceremonial tee shot at the Masters.

Tiger Woods:

“I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions. I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.” – statement after he was arrested for suspicion of DUI

Jason Day:

“He texted me after I shot 79 [at the U.S. Open on Thursday] and said, ‘Hey, before you work on something call me because I saw something.’ I was like yeah, you saw 79 shots. I didn’t call him because I was so angry.” – revealing that Tiger Woods texted him during the U.S. Open

Jim Furyk:

“We have 25 years of scars to overcome.” – the 2018 U.S. Ryder Cup captain, talking about the upcoming matches in France and noting that the U.S. hasn’t won on foreign soil since 1993

Justin Thomas:

“I’m probably just as excited to watch it as you are. I get a front row seat –– but I’m also looking forward to trying to kick his ass.” – on being paired with Tiger Woods in the Hero World Challenge, Woods’ long-awaited return to the PGA Tour

Rory Mcilroy:

“If I had a career goal, it would be to be the best international golfer ever. Gary Player has nine majors. I’d like to think I’m going to give myself a chance to get close to that tally.”

… and a few “old” one liners to finish

To find a man’s true character, play golf with him. PG Wodehouse

My swing is so bad, I look like a caveman killing his lunch. Lee Trevino

Be decisive. A wrong decision is usually less disastrous than indecision. Bernhard Langer

If you really want to get better at golf, go back and take it up at a much earlier age. Thomas Mulligan

These greens are so fast I have to hold my putter over the ball and hit it with the shadow. Sam Snead

and finally…

Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening – and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented. Arnold Palmer

Thanks again to everyone, Let’s make 2018 your best golf year ever!
